What is Facial Revitalisation acupuncture?
Facial Revitalisation acupuncture is a natural and effective way for people of all ages to take care of their appearance and health.  Loved by celebrities such as Sadie Frost and Susan Hampshire, as well as beauty journalists, including The Times’ reporter Sarah Vine, it is a safe beauty treatment and a natural alternative to Botox or fillers.

The focus of Facial acupuncture is to generate radiance by treating all parts of the body.  True beauty has always been a reflection of inner health so, as with Five Element acupuncture, treatment is aimed at supporting the function of the internal organs and improving overall health.

What medical conditions can it be used to treat?
In China much research has been done on the effectiveness of treating a variety of conditions related to the face and head: trigeminal neuralgia, bells palsy and others that result in a loss of muscle tone in the face.  At London Acupuncture all aspects of a person's health are taken into account and treatment is aimed at improving not only external appearance but also on triggering the bodies' own healing mechanisms.

What can I expect?
The initial consultation and treatment lasts 1.5 hours and includes a discussion of your overall health. This enables the practitioner to decide on the best treatment for you and also to recommend lifestyle changes to support treatment. Subsequent treatments last 1 hour.

During treatment hair-fine, sterile needles are placed in points on the body and face. These are single use and in our clinic we only use Japanese needles, which are of the highest quality and known for their painless insertion. The emphasis at London Acupuncture is on this being a pleasurable, relaxing and restorative treatment and to this end, the treatment incorporates massage and acupressure on the face and feet as appropriate.

Are there any risks?
Facial acupuncture is a safe treatment. On occasions, there is a minor risk of local bruising, which should disappear within a few days.  This treatment is not appropriate for those who are pregnant, or who suffer from frequent migraines or high blood pressure. In those cases, we would recommend Five Element acupuncture.

Number of sessions
Single treatments are beneficial and can be booked much as one would book a facial.  However for more substantial and longer lasting results a course of 6-12 treatments is usually required.  Following the initial course of treatment, maintenance treatments are advised every now and again to keep the effects of the course.

Research
In 1996 the International Journal of Clinical Acupuncture reported that in a clinical trial 90% of 300 cases treated with Facial Acupuncture, showed marked improvements after one course of treatment.
